María José Ayarza, better known as CHINI.PNG, is a self-taught songwriter and video artist. She made her name as lead singer and multi-instrumentalist at Chini and the Technicians, a band she founded together with her friend, visual artist Roberto González. The five-piece band also made up of Gabo Ardiles, Sebastián Riffo, and Niña Tormenta gained visibility thanks to their EP “En el Fondo Todo va Bien” released in 2015. Followed by their 2018 LP “Arriba es Abajo” – produced by Diego Lorenzini and Martín Pérez-Roa (Uva Robot records / Niebla studio)- highlighted by Rolling Stone Magazine in their “Top 10 Latin albums of the year.” In 2019, after an indefinite break with The Technicians, she began her solo journey as “Chini.png.” She is invited to perform at Salvador Allende’s Solidarity Museum and the Tocatas Mil cycle at Matucana 100. In 2020, she released her first EP, “Ctrl+Z” (Niebla studio), praised by local and international media for its eclectic sound and rich visual world, combining rock and bossa-nova. This work earned her a triple nomination at the 2021 Pulsar Awards. For “Best New Artist,” as a musician; “Best Album Art,” as a visual artist; and “Best Videoclip,” as director and editor for her single “Triángulo de las Bermudas” – which at the same time won the “Best Editing” award at the 2020 In-Edit Festival.
