MAWIZA is a Mapuche musical group that expresses itself through the energy of the ülkantun (singing) in METAL. The band aims to preserve the ancestral roots that run through our veins, to rescue the morals that define the people and their relationship with nature. All this through the worldview and struggle of the Mapuche nation.
The band became known in the Santiago rock and metal scene by their former name, “Nunca Seremos Dichosos,” after releasing the first metal song with lyrics written entirely in MAPUZUGUN: “Mawiza ñi piwke.” Later, Mawiza would release the album KOLLONG, winning the 2020 Pulsar Award for Best Metal Artist. The album was presented at the Caupolicán theater (2021), where they would perform again in 2022 but this time opening for GOJIRA’s show in Chile, as the French band would personally ask the production to share the stage with Mawiza.
The band is currently recording what will be the first metal album featuring lyrics and music based on MAPUZUGUN, MAPUCHE music, and the preservation of ITXOFILMOGEN.
