
What is Fluvial?
Fluvial is an international meeting for the development of the Chilean music industry. The event provides a showcase for talents and an opportunity to accelerate access to professional networks at a global level, facilitating opportunities for business and cooperative partnerships. The project consolidates, becoming a conference where music and the beautiful landscape of the historic city of Valdivia serve as the basis for a cultural experience where agents, managers, producers, and artists exchange ideas and knowledge and establish businesses for the global promotion and dissemination of Chilean music.
When and where does Fluvial 2022 take place?
Fluvial takes place in Valdivia, in the South of Chile, every year on the first weekend of December. The date was chosen because Feria Pulsar (Chile), SIM Sao Paulo (Brazil), BAFIM (Argentina), NOA (Argentina), and Cranea Música (Paraguay) are held on the same dates. Thus, generating a circuit of industry meetings in Latin America that has been strongly positioned at an international level.
This 2022, Fluvial will take place on December 1, 2, and 3.
What kind of activities does Fluvial offer?
Fluvial is a music conference and a professional meeting for the international promotion of artists and music in Chile. It brings national and international delegates from different countries and sectors of the industry together. It consists of two main pillars:
- An artistic showcase.
- A conference program with educational activities (panels, forums, workshops, and working tables), business roundtables and networking.
The complete activity program will be published in November.
What is Fluvial's main focus?
Fluvial is a music conference focused on developing independent Chilean music, especially regarding its international projection and professional networks. Therefore, Fluvial is concerned with strengthening associativity between creative industry trade associations, musicians’ associations, the academic world and sectors related to its development, like tourism and technology. To that end, it has implemented several roundtables aimed at improving coordination.
How was Fluvial born?
Fluvial was created by IMICHILE, the Independent Music Industry trade association, which currently represents 70 companies in the sector, including record labels, booking and communication agencies, and recording studios, among others. This network has allowed relevant alliances for organizing showcases and educational activities. Today, although still closely linked to IMICHILE, Fluvial has its own autonomous organization team. Its directors are Marcelo Godoy and Oliver Knust.
What are Fluvial's alliances in the Los Ríos Region?
At a regional level, Fluvial grows thanks to the support of Universidad Austral de Chile support; an institution concerned with developing creative industries. Through different units and faculties, the University has allowed the participation of teachers and students in training activities, the development of applied research on carbon footprint and economic impact studies, and also has provided physical spaces for the development of artistic and educational activities. The support of different venues in Valdivia, which have been part of the official showcase program, including Carpa Cecs, Club Gaz Gaz, Club Bimba, Rata Envenená, La Última Frontera, Tilo Restobar, and Espacio en Construcción, has also been crucial.
What institutions support Fluvial?
Fluvial has received support from various public and private institutions throughout the years. These include ProChile, SCD, CORFO, Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Sercotec and Sernatur, Los Ríos Regional Government, Municipality of Valdivia, Los Ríos Productive Development Corporation, and the Universidad Austral de Chile.
What are Fluvial's international partnerships?
At an international level, the relationship and support of the WIN global platform are very relevant, in addition to Canadian partners such as SODEC of Montreal and Global Toronto. Other vital partnerships include Sounds Australia, an initiative for developing the Australian music export market, and the International Indigenous Music Summit (IIMS), an event focused on promoting First Nations music.
What are Fluvial's partnerships with other associations?
At the association level, working roundtables are underway to move forward in the coordination and participation of the Federation of Musicians of Chile and IMUVA. Fluvial has partnerships in the Los Ríos region with the Valdivia Rock Musicians Association, the Santa Cecilia Musicians Association, the Marea Rock Foundation, Festival Lluviosa and Casamúsica. Also within the area, Fluvial has established alliances with the Valdivia International Film Festival, 9punto5, Marea Rock Festival, and currently with the Valdivia International Jazz Festival.
What is Fluvial's commitment to the environment?
Fluvial aims to become a sustainable event; therefore, it is committed to waste management, developing environmental education activities for children at Fluvialito and measuring its carbon footprint to achieve its certification as a sustainable event.
What is Fluvial's link with First Nations?
Fluvial focuses on intercultural and first nations matters. For this reason, together with managing and programming native artists, it has set up a working group to promote the Pan-American exchange of indigenous artists in the network called “El Encuentro del Águila y el Cóndor” (The Eagle and the Condor Encounter).
