Solar

Chile – Santiago

Solar is a Chilean rock band characterized by its unique approach to cosmopolitan pop music, twisting and expanding the format in diverse directions and with elegant and exquisite arrangements. The group formed in 1994, with the guitars and vocals of Alejandro Gómez as its main distinguishing feature. Its first decade-long run included the albums “Play” (in 1997, under the auspices of the multinational record label BMG), “Sábado” (2000), and “Sentido común” (2003). From that era, songs such as “Por costumbre,” “Lo que eres,” “Sábado,” and “Impredecible” stand out, receiving heavy radio airplay. Milestones include their participation as the opening act for the Argentine group Soda Stereo’s farewell at the National Stadium in Santiago de Chile, in front of 70,000 people. On January 4, 2004, Solar disbanded, and its members launched other projects such as Alamedas. In 2017, the band reunited its original lineup to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the album “Play,” performing at venues across the Chilean capital. With this return, Solar recorded a new album (“El tiempo” (2019) and ultimately consolidated a new lineup that is currently active, rehearsing, performing shows, and recording new material (“Mirage” (2024), an album nominated for Best Rock Album 2024 at the Pulsar Awards. The group is composed of Alejandro Gómez (vocals and guitar), Ricardo Contesse (guitar), Javier Pañella (keyboards), and Arturo Figueroa (keyboards).
