The Jasper Huysentruyt Trio is a Belgian-Chilean group led by Belgian pianist Jasper Huysentruyt, who has been living in Chile since 2011. He is accompanied by Nelson Arriagada on double bass, and Matías Mardones, both musicians with national and international careers.
Jasper Huysentruyt has a doctorate and studied jazz piano at the Gent school of arts, Belgium. Here he has collaborated with almost all the interpreters of the jazz scene, and also works as a piano teacher in the Superior School of Jazz, the CHT and the UNIACC, besides giving master classes around the country.
He has been recognized for his intense stage energy, his lyrical language and his familiarity with traditional and modern styles.
Nelson Arriagada was educated in Hannover, Germany and has a great command of both the cello and the double bass, in both classical and jazz music.
Matías Mardones is a polyvalent drummer who is very much in demand both in the jazz and pop scene, and who also has his own project focusing on avant-garde electronic music.
The band plays original music but also performs jazz standards and repertoire arrangements of a wide variety of styles.
From post bop to classical music, also urban rhythms, blues, impro.
It has stood out for having a sound of its own. In 2015 the trio released their first album in Chile at the GAM, “Condors” , with a tour to Europe in 2016. The album was inspired in part by Chile’s wild nature.
This year they recorded a new album, which will soon be released.
