Natalia Contesse was born on June 21 in the city of New Orleans.
Today she works as a singer-songwriter, composer, artist, poet, aesthete and cultural manager.
For the last 15 years, she has devoted herself to researching different musical, poetic and spiritual experiences belonging to the dimension of traditional Chilean culture. This research has been aimed at creating new repertoires of songs and music that are in response to the aesthetic universes of different territories; the “cueca”, the “tonada” and the “decimal”, as well as the history of migrations, trades and endurance, are sources of inspiration for the musical languages with which Natalia interacts between the traditional and the contemporary.
The theme of her songs proposes a look at the four elements: water, earth, fire and air, which are at the center of her poetic creation that in turn reflect the work and intense practice of twenty years within American shamanism.
She has three albums released as a soloist “Puñado de Tierra” 2011, “Corre la Voz” 2013, “Diluvio” 2017. She is currently ready to launch her fourth album in 2012. Between 2001 and 2006, she also participated in other world music groups such as Detucunaatutumba, Yamana, Orixango and Venaraiz.
As a cultural manager she is the creator of the educational and itinerant project called La Carpa de los Oficios and the Escuela Chilena de Folclor y Oficios.
