Carmen Lienqueo
Chile – Valparaíso
Carmen Lienqueo possesses a magnetic voice, a profound and simple lyrical work capable of transporting all listeners to the diverse landscapes of Latin America. She worked for 20 years in folkloric groups, a natural response to her exploration of rhythmic patterns characteristic of her roots, drawing on popular poetry and the language of South American canto a la rueda. She traveled throughout the continent playing alongside various projects in which she participated; for 11 years, her greatest training in the craft was the Chilean-Colombian band Makina Kandela.
Her current exploration as a soloist and singer-songwriter is under her maternal given name and surname, considering a repertoire with lyrics imbued with intimacy. It reflects a very personal perspective, which in turn echoes the everyday reality of the society in which she lives and her experience as an artist.
